Overload Continuity

1)
This zone offense is so named because the continuity is created by the point guard dribbling from side to side, pulling the defense with him (thereby creating an overload on one side of the defense). Screens are also plentiful in this zone offense to create open shots. This is an efficient offense that can be run against either an even- or odd-front zone.
This continuity zone offense begins with the point guard dribbling to a side of the floor. For the description here, O1 starts by dribbling to the right. O4 cuts out to the wing. O5 slides over to the short corner. O3 shifts down to the low block and O2 pops out to the opposite wing.

2)
O1 looks for the pass to O4 as he pops out to the wing. O4 can pass to O3 for the shot. O4 can also pass to O5 in the short corner. O5 looks for a possible drive or a pass to O3. O2 slides down to the weak side low block for weak side rebounding and a possible pass. A skip pass from O4 to O2 may also be available. O2 might also receive a pass from O3 if O3 looks opposite upon receiving a pass from O4 or O5. Also, if O5 penetrates and is cut off, O2 may be open for a dump pass across the lane.
As you can see, this overload to one side of the zone creates a lot of scoring opportunities.

3)
If there are no available options for O4 in the previous sequence, he passes back to O1 at the top. O2 will then step in to set a screen on the zone defender. O5 will cut off O2's screen and pop out to the wing. O4 screens down for O3. O3 comes off the screen for a shot. O1 should pass to O3 if open. If O3 gets the ball, but not the shot, he should pass back to O1.

4)
If a scoring opportunity did not materialize, the offense will now be reversed to the other side of the floor. O1 dribbles over and reverses the ball to O5. O4 should be cutting through the lane to the short corner at the same time. O5 looks for a pass to O4 or O2. O3 goes to the block. If O4 receives the pass, he looks for the shot, drive, or pass to O2. The same options apply as in diagram 2.

5)
If nothing is available, O5 passes back to O1. O3 sets a screen for O4 to cut out to the wing. O5 screens down for O2. O2 pops out for the shot if open. If not open, O1 reverses the ball to O4.
This simple continuity will continue back on the right side of the floor again.

6)
Skip Option:
This option works well when the ball goes to the short corner. This can be run specifically if the defense tends to sink down to low, and can also be utilized when the player in the short corner needs to get the ball out and keep the continuity going.
O1 slides over to an open area in the zone and O5 skip passes to him at the top. O1 can shoot if open. If no shot, O2 screens down for O5 coming off the screen to the wing. O4 screens down for O3 and cuts to the short corner. O3 pops out to the wing. If O1 did not get the shot, he can look to O5 on the wing or O3 on the weak side wing. Either option, the offense can continue with it's proper movement.
