Purpose: Players hustle after a loose ball and accustom themselves to diving on the floor. The defensive player is working on good on-ball defense and quick reaction.

Drill: The drill begins by having the coach roll the ball toward the foul line. Two players race after it until one gets possession. If you are practicing in a gym that has a couple of baskets to the side of the court as well, the coach will then call out a number of a basket for the offensive player to try to score at. The defensive player must prevent the opponent from scoring.

Coaching Points: The players should go aggressively to the ball. Be sure that the players are matched up according to size.
