Front the Cutter Drill

Purpose: For the defensive players to learn to 'jump to the ball' in order to front the cutter going to the basket.  The offensive players are practicing give-and-go techniques.

Drill:
The point guard begins by passing to a wing and then cutting to the basket.  The defender works on fronting the cutter to the basket.  The coach can also put a player in the high post and the cutter cut off of him.  The defensive player defending the cutter must remember to jump off his player and to the ball once the pass is made.  The objective for the defender is to make the offensive player cut behind him.

For continuity in this drill, the opposite wing will come to the point and the offensive cutter will replace the weak side wing.  If no pass was available on the cut, pass back to the top and then pass the other way (so we aren't always passing to the same side of the court).
