Individual Defensive Drills

Drill Name: Defensive Game

sketch
1
Purpose: Defense is rewarded for preventing a score in a competitive situation.

Drill: All defensive players start under the basket and the offensive players start at spot 1. A defensive player who is stationed under the basket starts the drill by rolling the ball to an offensive player in the corner at spot 1. The offensive player should receive the ball about two steps before the defender gets there. The offensive player is only allowed two dribbles. If the offense scores, then the defender stays in the defensive line under the basket, and the offense goes to next spot. An offensive player who does not score goes to the defensive line, and a defensive player who prevents a score goes to whichever spot he or she left off with as an offensive player. A player is finished with the drill after scoring from spot 5. The coach continues the drill until there is only one player left.
