Fundamentals 101

Playname: Leader Drill

sketch
1
Purpose: To teach the players to remain in basketball position. From there, the players can be taught the basic fundamentals of running, jumping, pivoting, and shuffling in a group situation.

Drill: In this drill, you can involve the entire team as shown in the diagram or divide into groups at separate ends of the court. A leader (or coach/manager) will be designated at each group and will take the players through the basic fundamental(s). The coach should be watching closely and correcting as needed. Technique and proper movement must be emphasized. The points of emphasis and fundamentals in which this drill works great are running, jumping, pivoting, jump stops, and shuffling.

Variation: Once the basics have been achieved, add a reaction aspect to the drill by having the leader make quick movements so the group must react and follow along quickly.
